It's Been A Long Day On The Track

Did you know that there were two walls separating East Berlin from West Berlin? The first was a smaller wall acting as a warning to individuals thinking of trying to escape. On the other side of this wall were sharp spikes used to pierce those climbing over. Then, if they were lucky enough to survive those, the escapees would have to get past viscous dogs, armed men, and explosive devices. This was all in attempt to reach the actual Berlin Wall, a wall even higher than the first they climbed over.

Below are pictures from the East Side Gallery. The East Side Gallery wall is the first, smaller wall used by the GDR. After the fall of the wall, artists from all over the world were asked to come and create masterpieces on the cement surfaces.
